About Dr Keith Burgess

MBChB MRCGP FRACGP FSCCA

Fellow of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia, Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor and Skin Cancer College Tutor

Dr Keith Burgess graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2003. He has trained in many surgical specialties including ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Thoracic (Chest) surgery, General surgery, Colorectal surgery, Ophthalmology and Orthopaedic surgery. He completed his general practice specialist training in 2010 and has worked in Australia since 2013. During this time his focus has been on skin cancer medicine and surgery.

Having seen the impact of skin cancer on the Australian population, Dr Keith has completed extensive training in skin cancer medicine and surgery, including complex surgical techniques (skin flaps and grafts) and advanced level dermoscopy for skin cancer detection, to help reduce the harm from skin cancer on our loved ones. He has felt this impact first hand, having an early melanoma removed from his back in 2021, with early detection and treatment hopefully providing complete cure.

His dedication to skin cancer treatment and extensive training has culminated in Dr Keith being awarded Fellowship of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia, the highest qualification in primary care skin cancer medicine and one of only eight in WA, including a distinction in advanced dermoscopy (skin cancer detection).

Through his role as a Skin Cancer College Fellow,  Dr Keith is involved in teaching other doctors to improve their skills to advanced level so they may become accredited skin cancer doctors. He is a college tutor and lecturer for the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.

A modification to the design of a surgical skin flap first described by Dr Keith Burgess has been published in the prominent U.S. skin cancer journal, Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr Keith loves spending time with his wife and daughter, enjoying WA’s nature, and playing his guitar. He also enjoys sailing, and AFL when injuries allow. He has played several seasons in the local AFL masters league.
